Forever and Ever, Amen by Liv Rancourt‏

Liv Rancourt writes paranormal and romance, often at the same time. She lives with her husband, two teenagers, two cats and one wayward puppy. She likes to create stories that have happy endings, and finds it is a good way to balance her other job in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Liv can be found on-line at her website & blog www.livrancourt.com, on Facebook www.facebook.com/liv.rancourt, or on Twitter www.twitter.com/LivRancourt

Molly, a forty-something single mom, tangles with the wrong guy and gets a hell of a hickey. That blotch is really a demon’s mark, and she’ll have to face the three things that scare her most to get rid of it.

First, Molly loses her job and then she has a near-sex experience with her philandering, not-quite-ex-husband. Worst of all, she has to sit by a hospital bed, wondering if her son is ever going to wake up.

The Powers That Be assign Cass to help her. He’s an angel who’s trying to earn a seat in the celestial choir by helping out a human in need. Vanquishing the demon would be his ticket up, but only if he plays by the rules. He’ll never earn his wings if he loses his heart to the lovely Molly. But she has even bigger things to worry about. She stands to lose her soul.

Thanks very much for having me as a guest on your blog, Pembroke!

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
While sitting at the airport in Rhonert Park, CA after visiting with my aunt right before she died, I started thinking about fear. My aunt wanted to die at home, so my mother stayed behind, though for Mom it meant living through one of her biggest fears. That prompted me to make a list of the things that scared me the most, and then I decided to put a character through them as sort of an experiment. I sketched the major plot turns on a napkin in the airport bar, and filled a couple pages with notes before the plane ever took off. My experiment turned into Forever & Ever, Amen.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
I started it in July 2011, started querying it in the spring of 2012, and contracted it to Crimson Romance in October 2012. It probably took 4-6 months for the first draft, then at least that long for feedback from beta readers and a couple of major overhauls. (In the first draft, the hero Cass was a pixie. Then someone pointed out that I’d never sell a pixie to a romance publisher, so I changed him to an angel. It works much better that way, but it took me a while to get there!)

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Coming up with really snappy one-liners that make me giggle. I love writing dialogue, and yes, I’m one of those goofballs who think the characters come up with stuff on their own. When they make me laugh, it’s the best.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
The uncertainty over whether a piece is working or not. I’m in love with it, my characters are charming and loveable, the setting is fabulous, but…

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
This is going to totally date me, but Jessica Lange, because she’s a fabulous actress and because she dated Bob Fosse, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Sam Shepard. Now, it’s not all about the men, but could you imagine having those memories, even for a day?

Wow.

Also, we share the same birthday, so there’s that.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Really, you don’t want to know. Really. Trust me. Really.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
More books! I’m querying two projects with varying degrees of intensity. I work on one for a while, then switch up and focus on the other. Both are romantic urban fantasies, and each is the first book in a series. I have a contemporary romance novella that’s been submitted a couple of places, and I’m about halfway through the first draft of another contemporary romance. Hopefully I’ll get to come back for another visit, to tell you about one of these projects!
